Paris l’été strives, during each edition, to put back on the bill works that have marked the contemporary repertoire and thus allow the summer public to (re)discover them.
This year, make way for Joël Pommerat's latest masterpiece, Tales and Legends, a play in which the artifice of the theater is a striking mirror of our humanity. The director signs here a documentary fiction of anticipation on the construction of self in adolescence and the myth of the artificial creature. He thus continues his fine observation of contemporary values and identities by revealing a slightly futuristic world in which humans and robots cohabit. Like an anthropologist of the future, he observes a series of relationships between adolescents, adults and androids and explores with intensity, and not without humour, the construction of social relationships and identities. The situations sow confusion and blur the bearings: boys or girls? humans or machines? young or old?
Joël Pommerat creates an aesthetic that belongs only to him, a theater that sculpts space and sound, prints the retina and the imagination. Excelling in the art of disorienting the public, he pushes a little further his subtle and total mastery of theatrical subterfuge.

In the press
A virtuoso look at our societies, as disturbing as it is fascinating.
Telerama - Fabienne Pascaud
By thus pushing the cursors of the real and the fantastic, the true and the false, the constructed and the natural, Joël Pommerat signs a masterful show, in its apparent simplicity.
Le Monde - Fabienne Darge
The author and director unveils his Tales and legends, a docu-fiction of anticipation that plays on the confusion between children and androids. A powerful reflection on the construction of identity.
Liberation - Anne Diatkine
