Their name resonates like a magic formula. The DakhaBrakha - which means "give / take" - are four musicians: three women and a man, dressed in traditional costumes and tall black headdresses. Drawing from the depths of Ukrainian polyphonic vocals, the group modernizes a colossal musical heritage with percussion, accordions and wandering melodies.
Gathered in 2004 at the Kiev Center for Contemporary Art, the quartet has for years roamed the villages of Ukraine collecting popular songs before they are gone forever. Little by little, various influences and rhythms from all over the world mingled with this folklore, borrowed from the East, Africa, India as well as the Balkans.
What follows is unlike anything existing: a stunningly beautiful trance, resolutely free and engaged.
