Beat By Bits

PAULA ROSOLEN / HAPTIC HIDE

LES 27, 28 & 29 JUILLET À 19H - Notre-Dame de Paris

Beat By Bits is the open-air adaptation of 16BIT, Paula Rosolen's exploration of the techno phenomenon...Representing stage performance in an outdoor setting, the performers seize, with the precision of a metronome, the energy inherent in techno music.

Beat by Bits views techno as a social, political and cultural event. As a decades-old transatlantic exchange, it represents an Afrofuturist expression for Detroit's black community and a symbol of liberation for Berlin when the wall came down. As well as a reflection on the genre's past, Beat by Bits is a cutting response to the shock of the pandemic and the fragility of our freedom to commune in the club's collective hypnosis.

This potent mix of tension and release manifests in the frenetic pace of the performance, which takes advantage of the outdoor setting to bring participants, spectators and onlookers together in the true egalitarian and unifying spirit of techno as it was conceived. originally. Moving or still, the crowd becomes an active participant, traveling with the dancers, carried away by this grandiose spectacle and this bewitching sound.

For her, it's not just about dancing to electronic music, she wants to work with her company "to understand how techno functioned as a social cement, also and especially during the time of reunification" in the early 1900s. 90s.

As with “Aérobics!”, Paula Rosolen once again addresses a mass social phenomenon that was once upsetting and an expression of its time.
