KALAKUTA REPUBLIK

SERGE AIMÉ COULIBALY | FASO DANSE THÉÂTRE

Du 26 au 28 juillet à 22h - Lycée Jacques Decour

For Kalakuta Republik, choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly, born in Burkina Faso, was inspired by the sulphurous life of saxophonist and Nigerian conductor Fela Kuti, inventor of Afrobeat. This militant artist has also spent his life fighting against corruption and multinationals in his country.

"Kalakuta Republic" was the name of his residence, located in the suburbs of Lagos, which has always seen as an independent republic. Serge Aimé Coulibaly delivers a sensual and virtuoso choreography on captivating tracks, at the crossroads of jazz, funk and Nigerian traditional music.

A colorful piece with a communicative energy, which raises the core question of the commitment of the artist.

« In Kalakuta Republik, Serge Aimé Coulibaly melts some intoxicating music with dance and African revolution. » Guy Duplat, The Free Belgium
