When she is not creating shows, director and choreographer Elle Sofe Sara herds reindeer in Norway with her children or observes animal tracks in the snow. And for good reason, she is a real Sami; she belongs to this indigenous people living in Lapland, a region that embraces the north of Sweden, Norway and Finland as well as the Kola Peninsula in Russia. On stage, in works full of generosity, she makes us travel in this world of legends.
For Vástádus eana / The Answer is Land, Elle Sofe Sara was inspired by the poem of the same name which touches the heart of Sami culture and whose adage could be: to live in harmony with others and in close connection with the environment. A magnificent message of universalism and fraternity which does not prevent a resolutely playful approach. Seven female performers unite contemporary and traditional dances in a joyful composition reminiscent of the most ancestral rituals, accompanied by Yoiks, mountain songs performed live by the artists themselves. A show that offers itself as an ode to living together and carries us away as if by magic!
