In Ça ira (1) Fin de Louis , author-director Joël Pommerat takes hold of the myth of the French Revolution and sheds light on the politics in the making. An exciting experience, which makes us dive into sparkling revolutionary ideas, re-questioning the necessities of militancy.
Here, no historical reconstruction: Robespierre and La Fayette melt into the mass of all these anonymous citizens to whom we owe the fall of the monarchy. Joël Pommerat is way more interested in ideological debates, in the dynamics that led men and women to take action to defend their convictions.
From the financial crisis of 1787 to the spring of 1791, just before the arrest of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette : fourteen actors, roaring on stage like wolf pack, make us go through the stormy elaboration of a new system.
A masterful piece that can be seen again and again without ever exhausting a great material that is both artistic and political.
