French adaptation DANIEL BENOIN
Cyril Teste and the Collectif MxM follow their major line of work and keep blurring the boundaries between theatre, cinema and performance. The result is their staged vision of Festen, the famous film by Thomas Vinterberg, Jury Prize at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.
Tonight is the night of celebrations. In his wealthy mansion, Helge Klingenfeldt has gathered his family to celebrate his sixtieth birthday. As the party goes along, the eldest son, Christian, delivers a speech and reveals terrible secrets, that absolutely no one expected to hear about. The family dinner allows to display the progressive destruction of all masks. The light is shed on truth and dazzles the guests.
With breathtaking mastery, Cyril Teste and the Collectif MxM display the drama in the form of a live film performance, where theatre is still at the forefront. No detail of the evening can be hidden from the gaze of the viewer, since the cameras will hunt down the truth in every corner...
A troubling show, which questions the mechanisms of lies and social hypocrisy.
